Bunions are one of the most common forefoot deformities. A displacement of the bone under the 1st toe occurs. This causes the big toe to move towards the smaller toes. This shifting of the bones causes a bony prominence on the side of the patients foot (the bunion joint). Over a period of time the big toe may come to rest under (occasionally over) the 2nd toe. A Bunion is more common in women then man due to the fact that women tend to wear tighter shoes. This condition can cause a variety of different soft tissue and bony complaints which may result in severe pain to the patient. The primary cause of bunions is over pronation .

The symptoms of bunions are:
Red, calloused skin along the foot at the base of the big toe
A bony bump at this site
Pain over the joint, aggravated by pressure from shoes
Big toe turned toward the other toes
Treatment Overview
A doctor can usually diagnose a bunion by looking at it. A foot X-ray can show an abnormal angle between the big toe and the foot.
Wearing better fitting shoes and orthotics to raise the arch and realign the foot will help reduce the pain associated with bunions.
Orthotics support your feet across the arch, for maximum relief of pain and fatigue. Our Orthotics designed to combat over pronation and provide greater stability and maximum support. They are Ideal for patients seeking arch support to treat the underlying causes of bunions.
Correct footwear can be one of the keys to preventing, recovering from, and preventing the reoccurrence of bunions.
